Northumberland, along with the Newcastle Gateshead quayside, was one of the main reasons I took up photography. The beautiful coastline, from Berwick up on Tweed down to St Mary's Lighthouse (technically just in Tyne and Wear) seemed like a wonderful hidden secret. Bamburgh Castle at dawn, the crossing to Holy Island, the tide-swept rocks on the approach to Dunstanburgh Castle - all views and experiences I never tire of. And all within an hour or so of my home. Further inland, the serene beauty of Northumberland National Park, the remoteness of Kielder Water and the internationally important Hadrian's Wall provide even more subject matter for a photographer, and are great places to visit. Alnwick Castle and The Alnwick Garden with it's brilliant treehouse, Cragside and other tourist destinations add to the mix. I never tire of exploring Northumberland.
Thank you for the beautiful picture of Embleton Bay which I received today. It brings back wonderful childhood memories of summer holidays spent there!
